中・古生代の有孔虫化石のスペシャリストですが，遠い過去をグローバルに扱う専門分野に止まらず，地域の大地の構成・生い立ち・現在に至る過程も調査・研究対象にしています．

身の回りの環境問題とその因果関係を追求していくと，それらは何らかの形で地学現象と関わり，地域の地形・地質とリンクしていることが解ります．我々の生活基盤である大地表層で繰り広げられている，繰り広げられてきた地質現象を通して，今後の環境問題・環境保全を，フィールドワークをベースにして広角的・総合的に把握できる人材育成を目指します．希望者には，中・古生代の有孔虫化石研究をもとにして，過去を探るおもしろさや醍醐味を直接伝授します．
